Educate Yourself

The first step to ranking better in search is understanding how search rankings work. You don’t have to be an expert digital marketer to improve your search rankings, but knowing how a search engine works, and how you can improve your site for both search engines and users will help in ranking your site. To best understand how to improve your site, you should first gain a foundational understanding of how SEO and site ranking works. For this we recommend Search Engine Journals Beginners Guide to SEO and Moz’s Beginners Guide to SEO. These are a great place to start in understanding how to fix your site.

Google Search Console

One of the best ways to improve your site is to first learn why your site is ranked the way it is. While no one knows exactly the algorithm that Google uses to determine rankings, there are several factors that we know play a part in rankings. Setting up Google Search Console, formerly known as Webmaster Tools, will provide you with a wealth of information that can be used to improve your site. Between crawl errors, search traffic, and the Google index you’ll have the tools you need to improve your rankings a little bit each month. Check out this great guide to help you understand Google Search Console and learn how it can help you.

Google My Business

Google is the heart and soul of search engine marketing and it’s local platform, Google My Business, is the core of local SEO. Claiming, correcting, and improving your own Google My Business page is a great step towards improving your business in Google search. When someone is looking for you locally on Google, your Google My Business page should be popping up on their search results and it should include directions, business hours, phone numbers, reviews, and more. Basically, everything a person searching a local business is looking for. By claiming your listing, you have the ability to manage this information, which further improves your ability to rank on search engines when people are looking for you. Claiming your Google My Business page is simple too. Check out this helpful guide from Google. It will walk you through claiming your business on both desktop and mobile if it is not already claimed. Most Overhead Door Company Ribbons listings have been claimed already by Corporate, however, we here at ER Marketing have access to them all. If you would like to manage your ribbon’s GMB yourself, please give us a call at 816-581-6190 and we can help you get admin access.

Content

In digital marketing, content is often considered king. Fresh and engaging content is favorable for both users and search engines alike. For a user, you’re answering their questions, and by providing them with helpful content, it helps them engage and ultimately convert on your site. For a search engine, fresh quality content shows that your site has both authority and relevance. With a constant stream of great content, you improve a search engines trust, improving your chances of ranking for the terms you want. Check out Search Engine Lands Guide to content for more helpful insights.

In summary, there are no easy wins in SEO, but making sure that you understand your website and understand how Google sees it are hugely important for improvement.
