IDEA, the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation has put together a series of videos to educate homeowners on how to protect themselves against scammers in the garage door industry. “A garage door repair scam has spread throughout the United States and Canada. This brief consumer alert video comes to you from IDA and DASMA. North America​​’s two trade associations devoted to the garage door industry. This video gives you a brief overview of how consumers fall victim to this scam.”

Pay Attention to Advertising​

The video states that “your first contact with a scammer with likely come through an advertisement. Although many honest companies also advertise the scammers marketing targets consumers who need emergency repair.” It's important to know how to spot the difference​ between a reputable garage door repair company​, like an Overhead Door Distributor​, from a company or individual looking to scam consumers for repair services.​

Two Reason Why Consumers Fall Victim to Garage Door Repair Scams
