Texas Tech University in Lubbock recently opened a new $48-million Sports Performance Center, a multi-purpose facility that will impact the school’s 17 intercollegiate sports. The performance center will offer a nutrition center, strength and conditioning areas, a sports medicine center for recovery, and most notably the Petersen Family Indoor Football Practice Facility that features seven Overhead Door™ Brand Model 521 Aluminum Glass commercial doors.

The model 521 doors installed by Overhead Door Company of Lubbock™, the local distributor that has been serving the community for more than sixty-five years, line the 120-yard football field, approximately 75,000 square feet, allowing for ample natural light when both opened or closed, thanks to their full-view clear glass windows.

Since the start of preseason practices in August 2018, the Texas Tech football team, a prominent member of the Big 12 conference in Division 1 college football, has been utilizing the Petersen Family Indoor Football Practice Facility in cases of high temperatures or inclement weather, which can be unpredictable in West Texas.

“First-class facilities like the new Sports Performance Center give our fans unforgettable game day experiences, help recruit top student-athletes and ensure that our fearless champions remain competitive,” said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “The Sports Performance Center will impact each of our student-athletes as it is one of the best training and competition venues in intercollegiate athletics today.”

Model 521 doors are constructed with top-quality materials and come with an optional maintenance program to contribute to an extended door life and maximum productivity. Other door features include thick, corrosion-resistant aluminum sections with galvanized fixtures and hinges for durable, trouble-free operation. While Texas Tech chose a clear anodized finish, Model 521 doors are available in 197 different powder coat color options, ranging from white all the way to hot pink, and can also be coated with wood grain options for a customized look.

“The Texas Tech indoor facility installation by our friends at Overhead Door Company of Lubbock™ is the perfect example of what Model 521 doors are made for. Our talented product development team specifically designed Model 521 to suit environments where maximum light infiltration is needed, high visibility is required, and sleek looks are a must,” said Christian Morrow, Brand Manager for the Overhead Door™ Brand. “We’re honored that our doors have a small role to play in this great facility and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Texas Tech and its talented student-athletes.”
