Overhead Door™ Helps Renovate a Historic Family Home
This Old House
PBS’ Emmy award-winning This Old House documented an eight-month renovation of a 139-year-old home with help from the Overhead Door™ Brand. Owners Liz and Joe Delfino inherited the 3,100-square foot residence from family, making it imperative to the couple that the home maintained its treasured character, while becoming more livable.
Since the old home lacked adequate heating efficiency, Overhead Door Company of Boston™ installed a
Courtyard Collection® garage door, which offers superior insulation to make the home cozier than it had ever been during Liz’s childhood. In addition to its insulation benefits, the Courtyard® garage door radiates curb appeal with its elegant wood design of a traditional carriage house door.
“Part of the This Old House renovation included building a guest suite directly above the garage, so we advised installing a
belt drive garage door opener because of its smooth and quiet operation. The belt drive allows the people upstairs to stay sound asleep even when the garage door is in motion,”said Russell Madden Jr. with Overhead Door Company of Boston™.
This Old House host Kevin O’Connor, general contractor Tom Silva, master carpenter Norm Abram, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey and landscape contractor Roger Cook were joined by apprentices this season to renovate the Massachusetts home and other projects, shining a spotlight on the value of jobs in the building industry.
