DASMA Thermal Verification Partnership

Overhead Door™ Brand has joined the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA) Thermal Performance Verification (TPV) Program

The Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA) announced their new Thermal Performance Verification (TPV) Program in their summer 2022 magazine issue. DASMA members implemented the program to create higher thermal standards for the residential garage and commercial door industry and to even the playing field. The program uses third-party testing to evaluate and certify the thermal transmittance (U-factor) of select sectional doors. Overhead Door™ Brand joined the voluntary program alongside seven other residential garage and commercial door manufacturers.

In compliance with DASMA’s new Thermal Performance Verification Program (TPVP), Overhead Door™ Brand will now publish U-factor ratings for select insulated sectional doors.

The Thermal Performance Verification Program applies to both residential and commercial sectional doors. The TPVP goes beyond the traditionally published R-Value and provides third-party validation of an entire door’s true thermal performance.

Only those doors that are classified as “highly thermally efficient” (insulated core with a meeting rail design and thermal break) will receive a U-factor rating.

U-factor is a measurement of the thermal transmittance of an installed door assembly. The lower the U-factor the better the insulation which is the opposite of the traditional R-value where the higher the value the better.

The program will de-emphasize the industry’s use of R-value and move to the U-factor rating as the measure of a door’s true thermal performance.

Effective immediately, we will emphasize U-Factor on many of our residential and commercial products. U-factor represents a complete door thermal performance measuring a door’s ability to conduct or transmit the flow of heat from one side to the other, while R-value represents an individual door section rating related to heat resistance.

Overhead Door™ Brand models have been tested by a certified, third-party lab for thermal performance U-factor rating per ANSI/DASMA 105.

The following chart provides a comprehensive list of Overhead Door™ Brand residential and commercial models that have successfully completed third-party ANSI/DASMA 105 testing. We will use the attached badge/Icon to signify verified U-Factor testing.

IECC®, ASHRAE and Title 24 Requirements:

All the below Overhead Door™ Brand Sectional Garage Doors meet the IECC®’s strictest climate zone requirement for maximum U-Factor of operable fenestrations (2021 Section C402.4) with a 3rd party certified tested value of less than 0.37.

The above Overhead Door™ Brand Sectional Garage Doors with air infiltration listed also meet ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC® (International Energy Conservation Code) C402.4.3 Air Infiltration requirements with tested values of air infiltration that are less than the ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC® maximum limit of 0.4 cfm/ft^2 per ASTM E283.

These door models also meet California Code of Regulation Title 24, Part 6 requirements with tested values of air infiltration that are less than 0.3 cfm/ft^2 per ASTM E283.

Overhead Door™ Brand offers a complete line-up of premier sectional doors that exceed the highest industry standards in thermal efficiency and air infiltration resistance.
